"Texts" We Use




Choosing the Right Text

Texts can be as long or short as works for you and your students, but the preparation and engagement and follow-up activities that really get students engaged with the language and culture.
Language/nudity in series: You can skip these sections if you’re watching multiple episodes. Usually the first episode of a show is pretty tame, so if you’re planning on just showing one episode, then there likely won’t be much, if anything to skip.
*In Spanish 3, I show one episode over the course of a whole quarter (1-2 days a week).
Do your research: Read reviews, go on IMDb and check out ratings, watch a preview, watch the first episode and see if your interest is piqued.
Comprehensibility: You want to choose something that will be challenging, but that they’ll be able to pick out keywords and phrases from.
Judgement: You know what you feel comfortable showing you students. Choose something that you can stand behind and that you feel is a good use of your time with students.
